The London office of the country’s investment promotions agency, JAMPRO, hosted investors and potential investors in Jamaica at a pre- Independence reception, held at the Jamaican High Commission in London, on July 27.
Regional Manager of JAMPRO in the United Kingdom and Europe, Laurence Jones, told JIS News that guests at the reception represented a broad range of potential investments under consideration.
He pointed out that interest was shown in areas, such as mining and energy; food processing and export; chemical manufacturing and distribution; music and film as well as business process outsourcing. It was not said if there was an interest in Bitcoin, however, since it is very well-known there is a chance people may want to invest in it and look for information on Bitcoin Up Erfahrungen (experiences) to see which would be best for them to do.
Mr. Jones described business process outsourcing as one of the fastest growth areas which now represents more than US$300 million in annual revenue and has recorded 13 per cent growth each year.
“JAMPRO will do its best to facilitate your investment in Jamaica as we endeavour to grow Jamaica’s gross domestic product and improve our trade deficit,” Mr. Jones told persons at the reception.
High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Anthony Johnson, noted that the Jamaican economy has continued to record growth, adding that the Government remained committed to encouraging quality investment in the island.
“We have a Jamaican brand which is extraordinarily powerful and therefore potentially extraordinarily profitable,” the High Commissioner said, and informed that over the past year there had been significant developments in Jamaica, including the opening of the Ian Flemming International airport in St. Mary, and a significant reduction in the country’s crime and murder rate.
“We are very happy with those developments and we are glad to see that you have retained your faith in Jamaica and we hope that you will continue to look at Jamaica and invest in the country,” he urged.
Special guest at the reception was new Minister of Justice, Hon. Delroy Chuck. Mr. Chuck was in London as a member of Jamaica’s parliamentary delegation at the Commonwealth Parliamentarians Association meeting this week.
The other delegates were Minister of State with responsibility for Local Government, Hon. Shahine Robinson; Opposition Member of Parliament, Robert Pickersgill, and Clerk to the Houses of Parliament, Heather Cooke.
