Jamaican Women continue success at 2019 World Athletic Championships

The prevailing word on the street, on social media and from pundits was that Jamaica was expected to struggle at the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha. Afterall Jamaica was "in transition" and "lacked strength". All of that turned out to be rubbish as the Jamaica team once shone brightly on the world stage. Sadly, athletics is still a male-focused sport and it was good to once again see Jamaica's women continue to carry the Jamaica flag high at the World Champs as they have had constantly done. Gone are the Bolts, the Powells and the Blakes but still the Jamaican women carry the torch lead by the indomitable Shelly-Ann Frazer-Pryce. If we tally Jamaica's medal haul at all the World Champs, the women, by far outshine the men in quantity and quality. If we go father and look at...

Historic point for Jamaica in Mexico

Jamaica achieved one of the most impressive results in its footballing history on Wednesday, drawing 0-0 with Mexico in the opening match for each in the final round of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying for Brazil 2014. After seven straight losses to the CONCACAF powerhouse in Mexico City, the Reggae Boyz captured its first-ever point at the renowned Estadio Azteca on the strength of outstanding play from goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts and a well-implemented game plan that kept Mexico largely at bay. The result should not come as a complete surprise. In their last World Cup Qualifying encounter on October 11, 2008, the Jamaicans defeated visiting Mexico 1-0 in Kingston thanks to a first-half goal by Ricardo Fuller. Arguably, the best chance of the game fell to Jamaica in only the 8th minute. Gar...

Jamaica earns 4-1 victory over Antigua & Barbuda

Dane Richards scored twice in the final 12 minutes, completing Jamaica's 4-1 victory over Antigua & Barbuda on Tuesday and providing the goals necessary to send the Reggae Boyz into the final round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying. Richards volleyed a ball from eight meters in the 78th that was played into the middle by Rodolph Austin, who had worked his way past three defenders on the right side of the penalty area. He added a finale 10 minutes later to assure Jamaica of advancing. Combined with the United States' 3-1 victory over Guatemala in Kansas City, Kansas, in a match that was played simultaneously, the Americans won Group A with 13 points, three more than both the Chapines and Jamaica. But Richards' goal gave Jamaica a plus-3 goal difference, two better than Guatemala. The re...
