Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Ceremony

Officers of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Jamaica says that, February 6, 2007, at 3:45 pm will be an historic moment for thirty-four young Jamaicans who have worked hard to qualify for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Gold. The prestigious award ceremony for these youngsters to receive their Gold Awards will be held at King's House in the presence of the Governor General of Jamaica, His Excellency The Most Hon. Professor Kenneth Hall, ON, OJ. His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex, Prince Edward, KG, KCVO, ADC will present the awards. (more…)

Jamaica focuses on renewable energy

The government of Jamaica is placing more emphasis on renewable energy in 2007 to reduce its national oil import bill which passed the US 1.5 billion mark this year. And as part of this effort it is privatising the Wigton windfarm in Manchester. Ruth Potopsingh, group Managing Director of the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica the state agency that owns Wigton, says since the facility opened in 2004 there has been interest from several potential buyers, both local and international. Prince Charles to Rebuild Trenchtown

Prince Charles has been recently fulfilling his role as a royal humanitarian. The British prince recently announced additional humanitarian work he has in sight - to unveil plans to rejuvenate a Jamaican ghetto. The Prince's Foundation - Charles' architectural charity - plans to redevelop part of Trenchtown, home to reggae legend Bob Marley. (more…)
