Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Ceremony

Officers of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Jamaica says that, February 6, 2007, at 3:45 pm will be an historic moment for thirty-four young Jamaicans who have worked hard to qualify for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Gold. The prestigious award ceremony for these youngsters to receive their Gold Awards will be held at King’s House in the presence of the Governor General of Jamaica, His Excellency The Most Hon. Professor Kenneth Hall, ON, OJ. His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex, Prince Edward, KG, KCVO, ADC will present the awards.

It will be the first time that the awards ceremony will be beamed live on the Internet from Jamaica which will be hosted on the Jamaica Information Service web site. The Webcast of the Duke of Edingburgh Awards will be facilitated by the Jamaica Information Service in Association with Emoquad. Broadband facilities will be powered by Cable and Wireless Jamaica Limited.

From all indications it could be the first time that the award ceremony will be broadcasted over the internet in any country. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Programme exists in over 100 countries and it is expected that thousands of leaders and participants will view this event internationally.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Programme is a character building programme. Participants participate in activities such as giving service to the community, learning a skill, participating in recreational activities and also going on expeditions in order to obtain their Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme is well recognized by businesses, academic institutions and scholarship granting agencies.
