Chinese Vice President to Visit Jamaica

From 11th to the 14th of  February, 2009 the Vice-President of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Xi Jinping, will be in Jamaica on an official visit to the island. Mr Jinping will be meeting with various officials throughout his visit including the Governor General, the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader as well as private meetings with the staff of the Chinese Embassy in Jamaica, Chinese company representatives and members of the Chinese community.

Mr Jinping’s main focus with be discussions related to bilateral and multilateral issues as well as on international political developments. He is expected to be presented with the keys to the city of Montego Bay by the Mayor, as well as break ground on the Montego Bay Convention Centre, a project partially funded through a Chinese loan.The Vice-President will visit the University of the West Indies, Mona, where an unveiling ceremony for a Confucius Institute will take place.
