Jamaica Beat Guatemala 2-1 in World Cup Qualifying Match

Demar Phillips and Ryan Johnson scored either side of halftime as Jamaica opened its World Cup qualifying campaign with a 2-1 win over Guatemala on Friday. Phillips opened the scoring for Jamaica in the 40th minute before Johnson extended the lead in the first minute after halftime. Guatemala substitute Dwight Pezzarossi scored in stoppage time for the visitors at National Stadium. Jamaica coach Theodore Whitmore said he was thankful to take away maximum points from the match: "We got three points from this and that is the most important thing.'' Jamaica will next travel to Antigua and Barbuda, which lost 3-1 to the United States earlier Friday.

NEPA Embarks on Sustained Programme to Protect Biodiversity

As part of efforts to protect and preserve the country's coastal and marine biodiversity, the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) has embarked on a sustained programme to better manage these resources. This was stated by Minister of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Robert Pickersgill, in a message read by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Genefa Hibbert, at NEPA’s Open Day function, held at its Head Office, in Kingston, Tuesday May 22. National Heroes Park to be cleaned on Labour Day

Cleaning and beautifying Jamaica’s heritage centrepiece, the National Heroes Park, in Kingston, is this year’s designated national project for Labour Day, to be observed on May 23. World renowned Devon House Ice Cream made National Geographic's list of Top 10 Places to Eat Ice cream worldwide and now it's Ackee and Saltfish's turn to get in on the top 10 list action as it comes in at number two on the top 10 list of National Dishes worldwide. Despite ackee’s unhappy origins as slave food, Jamaicans have reclaimed it as part of their national dish. A nutritious fruit with a buttery-nutty flavor, ackee resembles scrambled egg when boiled. Holywell National Park is a recreational area located 400th sq ft above sea level in the hills of St. Andrew. It is a part of the Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park conservation spread out over 78,000 hectares (200,000 acres) of tropical rain-forest in the north-east of Jamaica. It is one of Jamaica's primary eco-tourism attractions and is a sanctuary for several species of birds like the woodpecker as well as many plants such as firms and trees not seen anywhere else on the island.
