New Year’s Message from the Leader of the Opposition Andrew Holness

My fellow Jamaicans: The year 2012 has come to a close. It is timely therefore that we reflect on its passing. Undoubtedly we will do so with mixed emotions. At times our spirits fell to abysmal lows such as at the gruesome murders and physical abuse of our women. We experienced dissappointing economic decline, deterioration in our net international reserves (NIR), and a worrying depreciation in the value of the Jamaican dollar. Thankfully, there were times when our spirits rose to incredible highs. As we basked in the glory of the successes and achievementsof our athletes at the 2012 Olypmics and we proudly celebrated our 50th year of independence. Jamaica Elections 2011 Results

All the ballots of Jamaica's 2011 general elections have been counted and the results show a landslide victory for the People's National Party led by Portia Simpson-Miller and a surprising defeat for the Andrew Holness led Jamaica Labour Party. Most pollsters had tipped the JLP to win a second term in office but the PNP has been returned the power as the many Jamaican's are disappointed with their handling of the economy. PNP Defeat JLP to win 2011 Elections

Jamaica's opposition People's National Party has won national elections, preliminary results show, after a campaign dominated by the economy. If confirmed, the results will mean a return by PNP leader Portia Simpson Miller to the post of prime minister. Meanwhile, PM Andrew Holness will become one of the country's shortest-serving PMs in history. The snap election was called earlier this month by Mr Holness who succeeded Bruce Golding as leader in October. There was no immediate of claim of victory from Mrs Simpson Miller, but PNP campaign spokesman Delano Franklyn said the results left no room for doubt. Read more - BBC

Election Day Announced – Dec 29th 2011
