JCDC/NGJ Visual Arts Competition Opens

The JCDC/NGJ National Visual Arts Competition & Exhibition 2010 opens this Sunday at the National Gallery of Jamaica – Orange Street, Downtown Kingston at 3:00 p.m. 153 awards will be presented to 103 artists. Admission is free. Members of the public will be invited to vote for their favourite piece in the show. The artwork receiving the most votes will receive a cash prize and a trophy. The winner will be announced later.

The exhibition will close on August 28 after which a portion of the exhibition will travel to three other locations across the island. National Gallery Viewing Hours: Tuesdays – Thursdays 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m, Fridays 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m, Sundays & Mondays – Closed. Public Voting: July 25 – August 7 during National Gallery opening hours. The opening function will take place on the lawns behind the NGJ building and the exhibition will be located in the NGJ’s ground exhibition galleries.

The National Visual Arts Competition and Exhibition is an annual colloboration between the NGJ and the JCDC and is part of the annual Independence Festival. This project is sponsored by the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), Claro and the Urban Development Corporation (UDC).
