Jamaica to host the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism investment conference in May this year. This premier event focuses on the boundless opportunities for tourism related investments in the Caribbean, in hotels, attractions and the supply of goods and services. Prime Minister Bruce Golding made the disclosure January 16 when he officially declared open the two day Caribbean marketplace ceremony and awards presentation at the new Montego Bay Convention Centre.
He said this was part of the effort to continue to make the Caribbean and in particular Jamaica, the global destination of choice. ‘The conference will be timely, coming as it does in May at a time the world is slowly emerging from the global recession and investors are looking for new opportunities to get going again and to be part of the upswing’, Mr. Golding told the ceremony. He said JAMPRO will be supported by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association to partner with Jamaica in staging the conference here.
This investment conference will also coincide with another initiative being undertaken by the government, with the support of the Inter-American Development Bank, and major private sector entities such as Digicel and Citi-Bank. Mr. Golding disclosed that in May around the same time as the CHTA event, Jamaica will stage an investment and development conference to explore new avenues for stimulating and facilitating investments. This will focus primarily on Jamaica but will not exclude the broader Caribbean. This conference will link those opportunities for investments to the development goals as outlined in the national development plan Vision 2030 which seeks to make Jamaica the place of choice to live, invest, do business, raise families, Mr. Golding said.
